A rough stretch of marked pavement sends a chill through the chassis and into the cabin. The optional air suspension improves this, with our Trailhawk test vehicle offering a more refined ride.

A technology-rich interior, easy-to-use controls and comfortable seats make the Grand Cherokee a comfortable companion. The quality of the materials and the fit and finish of the panels need some polishing, but the cabin looks and feels sturdy and stylish. The interior can be rugged or luxurious depending on the trim level and options. Jeep designers use soft-touch materials and leather in key areas such as the door sills, upper door panels and dashboard, but use cheaper hard plastics elsewhere. Overall, the interior design is convincingly upscale, with all controls within easy reach. The climate control is managed via the Uconnect infotainment system, but it is often frustrating because there is no extra button elsewhere to quickly change the airflow. Utility vehicles are versatile, and the Grand Cherokee is very successful in this regard, while some of its rivals only offer utility and interior storage space.
Jeep’s excellent Uconnect infotainment system is one of our favorites for its ease of use and speedy performance. Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across the Grand Cherokee range, and all models are available with the latest higher resolution screens. Optional onboard Wi-Fi is now available with a faster 4G LTE data connection. With backseat entertainment and streaming services available, the Grand Cherokee becomes a movie theater on wheels. A 6-speaker audio system is standard, and a 19-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo is available on select trims.
