A paper type specially designed for printing CVs and cover letters. For ideal quality, you should choose paper that weighs around 32 pounds and has a cotton content of 75-100%. For career fairs and job interviews, you should print a physical copy of your resume on high-quality paper.
What Your Resume Should Look Like In 2018
Because the type of paper you use on your resume makes the first impression on a recruiter or potential employer. Poor quality resume paper makes you look sloppy and careless. Who would want to hire someone like that?
We’ve printed resume samples on over a dozen resume stationery to help you choose the type of paper for your resume that best suits your taste and needs!
Now let’s see how different types of resume paper affect how our resumes look when printed.
“Crisp” is one of our most basic resume templates. Not a lot of graphics, not a lot of color. Printing a simple CV like this on ivory paper gives a nice and classy look without risking disqualification.
Practical Tips To Make Your Résumé Perfect
“Cascade” consists of two opposing columns. It has more colors than the previous template, but not as much shading. Again, ivory paper looks very professional and can reflect your personality. If you have a quality printer, whatever color paper you’re looking for, a dark column looks best.
“Cube”, like “Cascade”, uses a side column to display information. the difference? The column is light in color. This subtle shade of gray looks great on white CV paper.
Now you have to print your resume on a random sheet of paper to match your color preferences, right?
It has the lowest transparency. It is also white and bright. Plus, it’s the strongest of the three, so it’s the least likely to wrinkle.

To better demonstrate how texture affects the look of your CV, we’ve chosen two templates for this comparison – ‘Crisp’ and ‘Cascade’.
In the photo above you can see a plain 100% cotton CV paper – the high cotton content adds texture and extra roughness to an otherwise plain plain CV paper. (Let’s find out how important cotton material is for CV paper, read on to learn more!)
Historically, all important documents – certificates, awards, government announcements or official invitations – have always been written or printed on parchment paper.
While a parchment-paper resume might impress some employers, it’s a potential turn-off for others: “Hey, Stephanie, was this edited by a carrier pigeon or a guy with a tall bike?”

Note. The parchment paper used for comparison is ivory. Ivory parchment paper can sometimes appear brown with a green finish.
This CV paper texture clearly shows all graphic elements and text and is very pleasant to the touch.
Paper with a fitted finish is made to mimic the appearance of paper when it was invented. The manufacturing process uses a dandy roller to leave a pattern of chain lines on the paper. It is very complex and unique, but
Avoid this if your resume has very dark elements that require a lot of ink, or if you don’t have a high-end printer handy.

Automatically fill in bullet points, skills, and boring stuff when you create a resume in our resume builder. Spell check?
As I mentioned earlier, the cotton content gives the paper some texture. As a result, as you can see in the picture, the cotton paper (left) does not reflect light.
The high cotton content helps improve fonts and the colors of your printed CV better reflect the original colors of your digital copy.
But there’s another difference you might not notice – when you touch the cotton paper, you’ll be surprised at how pleasantly soft it is.

With all these samples and information, it’s time to make your final decision on the best resume paper, right?
This study compared how similar resumes performed based on the type of layout (formal vs. creative) a given resume was printed on and the type of paper (white vs. color) it was printed on.
Although ivory paper was not included in the study, the message is clear: white paper is the safest choice, unusual CV paper colors hurt your chances of getting the job.
Another interesting study showed that 1 in 5 recruiters rejected a candidate whose resume was printed on decorative paper without batting an eyelash.
