This should be well documented in the service manual, but you should know where to find the battery. I’ll pull out a few places I’ve found batteries over the years. Step 6. Install a new battery (or a charged one if you pulled yours to charge)
The first part of the installation is the exam. If you use a different (new) battery, make sure the physical size is the same. Also, make sure the battery has the same capacity as the motorcycle. Finally, check the terminals – make sure the positive and negative terminals are not reversed!
If your battery needs to be charged with acid, charge it before putting it on the motorcycle so you don’t risk spilling acid on your bike. Note that some batteries do not come with acid. If you have one of these, it’s best to visit your local motorcycle shop and have it filled for you, as the acid is sold in larger quantities than you need for a single battery. Some batteries come with acid. Some are just big containers and you have to fill each of the six cells by eye. Some contain six different chambers with just the right amount of acid in them. Tip: If you have this type of acid pack, turn the battery over and place it inside the pack, making sure it seals. Once the battery and acid are “locked” together, turn the whole game over and let it drain. Do it this way you prevent the possibility of acid spilling if you don’t pierce the package mouths evenly.
Follow the battery manufacturer’s charging instructions, be careful and do the job in a well-ventilated area or outdoors.
