This is a relatively short promise compared to the longer corresponding Bible verse. But if you look at the simple message of Jesus, the promise is short and sweet. As a child, I was taught that anxiety is a sign of being responsible. If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t care.
As I get older, I learn that a lot of the things I was told weren’t really true. Worrying doesn’t help us. Anxiety is not a sign of responsibility. Anxiety may not prolong our life, studies show that it can shorten it since more than 70% of illnesses are stress related. It just goes to show that our bodies were not built to withstand a lot of stress.
Jesus encourages us to ‘don’t worry about your life’… period. The reason we don’t have to worry is because we have a Father in heaven who has promised to take care of us all the days of our lives. In this passage of Scripture, Jesus describes how his Father cares for the birds of the air that neither sow nor reap nor store in barns. Then he asks the question… How much more valuable are you than the birds?

Worry is a sign that we are not yet sure of our worth to God. Don’t worry about how anxious you are! Just ask God to give you a deeper revelation of your value to Him. Parents raise their children. Children do not have to beg for their provision, they can simply rest knowing that a loving parent is watching over them. Don’t worry… God will take care of you! Oh, the irony of this verse is about enjoying each day after drinking yesterday’s soap. And now we read that each day has its own problems?

What I’m hearing here is that I shouldn’t let the unknown and the possibility of future negativity get me down. Bad things can happen. Bad things will happen. I should know that But each day must be taken by itself.
Understanding them all means you can manage each day. No need to worry about future days, handle every day day by day. I don’t think this is saying that planning or goal setting is bad, just that we shouldn’t get caught up in anxiety. Focus on what we can do now, and do it well. We have to let go of the things we can’t control and be okay with it. And, as he told us yesterday, enjoy it while we can.

You know there are many things in the air. Lots of things can go in many directions, resulting in big changes on all sorts of fronts. I feel a lot of promise for this year and yet, I admit it, anxiety too. (And you know there are so many variables and situations to come that I don’t even have a clue, yet!)
I think what you’re saying here is stay the course, keep moving forward, but don’t worry about the outcome of anything. Whichever way they go, you have them and you have me. Worrying about them doesn’t change things or help me understand what results are really good. I must do what I can today, one step at a time in faith.
