Does It Fit In My Car – Getting into your car on a hot summer day can really make you appreciate a working air conditioning system. Don’t wait until it’s too hot to drive even with the windows down. Check your air conditioning system now and make sure you have enough cool air to beat the heat and stay comfortable all summer long.
The first thing you need to know before charging your car’s AC system is what type of refrigerant your system needs. Older refrigerators have been phased out due to environmental impact and replaced with cleaner options. The most common refrigerant is R-134A (or HFC-134a), although newer vehicles may use R-1234YF (or HFO-1234yf). However, some very old cars can also use R-12 (or Freon).
Does It Fit In My Car
The easiest way to find out is to check your car’s air conditioning system nameplate under the hood. We have provided images with examples for easy reference. If for some reason you can’t find the name, you can also contact your brand distributor and ask them to find it for you. However, for older vehicles, you may need to check yourself as the system has been converted to a new type of gas. We’ll help explain it below.
How Do I Inspect My Car When The Body Work Is Done?
If you’re reading this, your car uses R-134a. This is the most common gas, but it can still harm the environment and is being phased out. If your car was manufactured after 1994 but before 2014, you most likely need R-134a. An R-134a charger hose will only work on an R-134a system, so this will also help you determine what type of gas you need.
If your car was purchased between 2014 and today, there’s a good chance you need R-1234yf refrigerant. As with older systems, R-134a charge hoses will not work on R-1234yf couplings. This coolant is better for the environment and can now be purchased at your local auto parts store for a DIY recharge. R-1234yf Vehicles older than 4-6 years or that have been in an accident may begin to leak refrigerant. If you need to top up and stop the leaks, check out our Avalanche Gold Refrigerator with Smart Chip for safe, easy and accurate A/C charging.
R-12 is the oldest and original air conditioning refrigerant, but has been replaced due to damage to the ozone layer. If your car model was manufactured before 1995, then your system may have R-12. Some R-12 systems can also be converted to R-134a. In this case, you can see it on the sticker under the hood. Finally, when all else fails, check the service port. R-12 and R-134a use different size fittings, so the R-134a charger hose will not fit into the R-12 service port. R-12 is still available for purchase, although you may want to consider switching to R-134a, which is better for the environment and more readily available.
We hope this helps point you in the right direction so you can have peace of mind knowing you’re using the right type of coolant for your vehicle. Please remember that using the wrong type of coolant for your system can be dangerous or cause serious damage, so it is very important to get it right. Don’t worry, because Avalanche AC charger hoses only work on their respective system types, eliminating the risk of using the wrong type.

Almost everyone loves being outdoors, exploring nature and visiting national parks. However, not everyone likes tent camping and not everyone can afford an RV or camper van. This is where the car camper conversion comes in! Luckily, we’ve covered how to convert your car into a camper so you can explore the great outdoors without a tent!
While some vehicles are obviously easier to convert into a camper than others, it can be done with almost any vehicle.

To begin your car camper conversion, you need to figure out the best seating configuration in your vehicle so that you have the most sleeping space.
Do your seats fold down to create a flat floor? Do they bend forward? Can you remove your car seat?
If your back seat folds down and creates a flat surface in the back of your car, that’s the best case scenario! This makes a great sleeping surface when you convert the car into a camper.
My Car Is Dying, What To Do: Buy A New One Or Fix It?
You can also remove the back seat. If you do this, you’ll have a gap between the trunk of your car and the rear passenger’s feet, so when you build your sleeping platform, you’ll need to have longer legs to reach the floor in that area.
If your car is big enough and your seat won’t fold down or slide out, you can slide it forward as far as it will go. This will give you plenty of room to sleep.
Finally, if your front seat reclines, do it. You can build your sleeping platform around them so they can be upright while driving and lie flat while sleeping so your legs can stretch.

Ordered, But Will It Fit Through My Garage Door?
Once you’ve decided on the best way to configure your seat for your car camper, you need to decide how you want to sleep.
How many people will sleep in your car? Is it for 1 or 2? Is your head in the front seat or the back of the car?
The location of your head and feet will probably be determined by whether you have a hatchback or a trunk. You really can’t go wrong with either, but decide which way you feel most comfortable and go for it.
Your machine is now ready to create your sleeping platform. Sure, you can throw out a blanket or sleeping pad and camp there, but the sleeping platform provides storage underneath and a full bed to sleep on.
Do Your Research To Have The Power When Buying A New Car
If you’re camping with other people in the car, a sleeping platform is a great way to convert your car for camping. If you’re just camping alone with your car, you can get by without it.
This is the part where the car camper conversion process can really vary from car to car, as the amount of space available to you varies greatly depending on your make and model.
You will want to use at least 1″ x 7″ wood to build your platform. The 7-inch depth gives you plenty of storage without sacrificing headroom.
We converted our Honda Fit for camping, which is a pretty small vehicle, and we did it with 1″ x 7″ wood. You can read all about our Honda Fit Camper conversion.
How To Keep Kids Calm And Entertained In The Car
Start by measuring your car and then cut the wood. Make sure it can fit in the trunk too! You don’t want to build a platform in the car only to make it too big in the trunk!
The platform should have vertical and horizontal support, especially if it is designed for 2 people. You don’t want a wobbly or unstable platform.
After measuring your car, cut the wood to the correct size and drill it with screws. Next, you will cut the plywood for the top of your platform. The top of your platform should be cut to different sizes so you can have different openings for your storage area.
All storage below your platform will be accessed by lifting the plywood platform connected to the frame with piano hinges.
Warning Do Not Touch My Car Sticker
You can make as many separate storage units as you want, but remember that you have to raise them above the bed. For our car camper conversion, we made one small compartment behind the driver’s seat and one large compartment for the rest. It’s quite difficult to climb, but still accessible.
Now that you have your sleeping platform for camping in your car, your car camping conversion is almost complete! You just need your bed!
Your bed can be as plush and soft as you want it to be. You can use a simple camping sleeping pad that provides minimal comfort, or you can purchase a memory foam mattress topper or pillow case.
When shopping for a mattress pad or pillowcase for your car camper conversion, make sure you buy a little bigger
