Mykins was thrown through the hatch from the front passenger seat and died on the spot. The driver and two other passengers, a man and a woman, who were also ejected from the vehicle, were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.
“This young woman is fighting for her life right now,” Deputy Chief Michael Fowler of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said at an afternoon news conference.

Campbell was charged with second-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, both felonies, and driving while intoxicated. Campbell was previously charged with impaired driving for the Geneseo incident in September.
Fowler said he was arraigned from his hospital bed and will be held in lieu of his $25,000 bail. Deputies will keep an eye on him while he remains in the hospital, and once he is released, Campbell will be transferred to the Monroe County Jail.

Campbell’s car was heading south on Clay Road, passing a Walmart store, when it went around a sharp curve. Fowler said there was no evidence Campbell tried to release or negotiate a return. His vehicle struck a concrete sound barrier between the end of Clay Road and Interstate 390, then overturned a Hylan Drive exit sign and came to rest in the grass on the side of the freeway.
Moments later, the vehicle was discovered there by off-duty Rochester Police Officer Jason Hess, who called for help. Hess, who is a K-9 officer, was driving home on 390, Fowler said.
