How To Wire A Tachometer To Coil Motorcycle – First of all, I’m not familiar with electrical stuff in general and it’s impossible to read a modern wiring diagram. So I bought a koso tnt-01 crown for my 2009 Bonneville and spent a miserable week trying to figure out which cable was which. I also got help from people who knew what they were doing and didn’t follow their instructions. So, biting the bullet, I ended up cutting the original tool away from the original tool. This caused some confusion as the connector side is different from the unit on the headset, go figure maybe a Triumph item? Anyway, since the main connector doesn’t have 12V fixed for the new speedometer memory, I would run a wire from the battery to the speedometer and also run the chassis ground to the speedometer. This simplified everything for me as it only left the flame on the hot wire which is simple with a basic voltmeter. After powering up the new speedometer, it was time to run the other wires from the oil light, neutral light, high beam and connector to the speedometer. Thanks to Ade-955i, who gave me the color coding for the wires that fit on the side of the headset. Another problem I haven’t fixed yet is the fuel and mileage lights, my custom D9 bracket has a separate LED. These lights will go to their original connector, which is different from the main connector in the pictures if that makes sense. So the sequence is:
So I have separate equipment for fuel and lights, which are red and black at each traffic light. These wires will go to three connectors with three wires, I haven’t connected them yet, but I’ve tested them and they work. I would recommend the bracket that Seth @ D9 got with the extra lights.

The next problem is getting the signal for the RPM cable. Koso’s instructions are too confusing for a guy like me, so I called my brother and he figured it out in 5 minutes after struggling for days. Long story short, the methods that koso recommends to attach RPM wires to a screw, wire, or coil are a waste of time. The best way was to use a direct connection to the coil, which required loosening the coil to access the cables at the front of the bike and clamp the cable as shown in the picture below, where the “B” accessory is fitted with the cable. the loops between the coil and the wire. (pic1) also need to set pulse to speedometer to save time, I set it to “1”. It gave me an instant signal and seemed accurate to the minimum, so consider it accurate on the range. The second picture is the actual coil attached to my bike and the actual RPM wire. The RPM thread is blue/yellow and hits the top thread of the bobbin

The speed sensor is simple. Follow the instructions. Measure the circumference of the front or rear wheel, enter this measurement into the correct speedometer in mm, align the speedometer with the supplied bracket, magnet and sensor and the simple speed was correct when tested with the GPS unit.

After wiring the inductance coil, I saw the error code displayed on the tuning device. So I’m wondering if it will somehow go and stay out of the way after the ignition is turned on. If it causes problems, I will leave the fire on. I have never needed mil or kerosene lights in any of the four Hinkleys.

Click to expand… Hey, I have a custom harley softie, I’m overclocking, so you connect the b connector to the positive side of the coil, connect the positive and put the original wire through the clevis and the female connector.

This is the backlight (as I figured out after checking this, the red and black wire, joining the lighting wires – I’ll figure it out).
However, it apparently does not wrap around the spark plugs. To read the RPM, there is some mention of dividing by the coil unit (calculated from googling the item). These are 3 shortcuts. Everything is empty. Where is it? How?

It was a $20 scare. If it doesn’t fit, I’ll probably go with the Trail-Tech. I remember when I bought it for this, it was only available in orange. Not much fit on my 2020 TV… Plus, I like the look of the arms on any meter on a non-technical bike. I thought it was worth a try…
Maybe someone here can help with this model. But without the seller’s instructions, you’ll probably have to experiment.
An old Trail Tech Pap on one of my bikes also uses spark pulse to read RPM. So I would start there. I wasn’t ready to touch the coil or anything else. The candle signal on the Trailer Tech was accurate enough for me.

I checked Amazon. This color coded wiring looks the same for every motorcycle tachometer we sell and shows as follows;
Short Black – Off positive (this means “hot” when the switch is in the ON position to turn on.)
Yellow/Black engine signal (it says, and I mean, “some models need to connect a high voltage signal line”. Not sure what that means or if it applies to the TW200.)
I start by connecting the wires in the sequence shown above with yellow/black from the CDI to the wire feeding the coil.

I was hoping someone could tell me if the TW200 needs 2 or 3 short wires. Do we have such a high voltage line? What is it anyway?
Did it go from row to row to run the speedometer? Does this work with our bike?
I touched on some weird stuff that I shouldn’t have posted. My tachometers (mostly digital RPM readouts) have all had some sort of magnetic design so they will sense electrical and mechanical rotation (eg windings, fan blades) and convert and display that to an RPM number.
