There are some newer types of tuners/regulators that cannot be easily tested because they contain microchips and specialized circuitry.
Note that some synthesizer/regulators have capacitors inside them, which will also affect your results.
If you are using a combination tuner/adjuster, please note that this test procedure only verifies that the fix pack is working properly. Your Bike’s Charging System

Is the voltage below 12V when idle? Then something doesn’t generate enough power. You may have a short somewhere in the system that is drawing too much current, the commutator/stator circuit may be faulty, or the reg/rec may have failed completely.
Is the voltage greater than 15V at 3000 rpm? If so, then the regulator/regulator is partially fried. You can do some more testing on it (that’s a story for another day). But you can pick it up, or you can buy it by firing up a pot. At worst, you’ll need that backup (they all die eventually).
