I spent five days on this task. The downsizing process went well. The preparation stage too, no problem. However, seals do not fix leaks. Someone already tried to repair the tank using JB Weld or equivalent. I used a steel wheel to flatten the weld and run bare metal around the outside. But apparently it’s not connected to the JB weld and I still have the leak in the same place. So one day I will cut off the rest of the tank and install new metal in there. I hope the seal doesn’t prevent the weld. In fact, the work is a failure. I have been using a used tank, no water leaks for a while.
The product is well thought out, has good specifications, and I’m sure it will work well with an all metal tank.
As I can see, the treatment is good, but the work is too close to give a complete review.

The action a person takes may be different in these situations – or they may be the same.

First, removal and replacement are sumpi’ to think about. I say this because this is a very good option today, especially since there are many online options for conversion. Just spending a hundred or two hundred dollars on a new hardware store that can be useful and work properly again will be the smartest decision. Also consider used tanks that may be better than yours. And if your bike isn’t too old, hey, the dealer might have a new one sitting on the counter somewhere.
Older fatbobs tend to last longer because they are built to last. It’s not light, but to get the light you get from rust is almost like leaving it in the ocean for decades. Generally, the newer the bike, the thinner the sheet metal is mostly in the interest of saving weight – and creating more tank shapes. Picture of Lemmy
Consider, too, the construction of the tank. Old Harley-Davidson Fatbob tanks, for example, have excellent safety standards because of the incredible steel used in their construction. Generally, however, newer bikes have tanks made of mild steel. If your tank is made of thin metal and rusts and weighs heavily, fixing the problem will be very difficult and time consuming. If your tank is leaking everywhere, that could also be a sign that the tank is beyond storage, depending on how much time and money you have to spend on the job.

Obviously, rarity comes into play; A tank in a condition that might be considered durable for a high-end bike would be the holy grail for one of the lower-end products. The output of this is also the outside of the tank: the front paint really helps the value of the bike. A motorcycle tank that is still in its original condition may be worth putting some effort into because of the price that usually comes with all bikes. Also, even painting that cannot be repeated to match other parts of the motorcycle will cost more.
Once you’ve decided that this particular tank project is worth your time, money, and effort, it’s time to assess the damage. A flashlight, mirror, cell phone, and depth sensor come in handy at this point. Small problems or scale problems are usually not too difficult to solve.
